1 to avoid: Selection Services
Thought i would give the monkeys a heads up on a support company to avoid.

At work we have our own in house IT team, however we always take out fast response support on our server hardware, so should things go horribly wrong we can get equipment replaced within 4 hours.

We start using Selection Services 2 years ago and in that time we have had to call them 4 times about urgent critical problems.

1) Server blue screening at 8am in the morning, called Selection and explained the server was critical and we needed a repair ASAP.
24 hours later I got an email with a "possible" solution, that I had already found through searching google myself. The solution did fix the issue, but 24 horus later is not the 4 hour "on-site" response we had paid for.

2) Dead UPS, no sign of life. Called them and reported it for repair, engineer turned up, had a look round it (did not open it or even touch it). He declared it dead and said he would send a quote for about £1500 for a new one. After he left I figured we had nothing to lose so played with a red button on the back of the switch. Bingo! working UPS (seems to be some of reset switch). So much for "highly qualified engineers".

3) UPS showing faulty battery status, replced batteries, sitll showing error. Call it in and we are sent a replacement UPS. I stay till 8pm at work so I can shut everything down and swap UPS' the loan one is damaged, the front cover is hanging off and their is loud rattling sound from the inside. When you plug it in there is no power to it at all. Phone them again told them this wasnt good enough as my old one had now died too and I wanted an engineer here today with a working UPS as I was not leaving the site for a weekend with no battery backup.... watch this space.

So all in all a company to keep away from, they are not cheap and they are not worth the money you pay.

http://www.selection.co.uk/ is there website if your even in doubt who I mean.
