Buying a Gaming Rig
I'm looking for a Gaming PCto last me the next few years. I have a £3500ish budget, thought about building it myself but I would prefer pre-built with a warranty for 2-3 years. Any suggestions? I've looked @ http://www.Alienware.co.uk and http://www.uber-ware.co.uk so far. Quite like the Godlike. Thoughts?

I've heard good things about pcspecialist.co.uk. Fully customizable, and the Intel i7 / SLi rigs are around £3000.

Not sure if you can order from these guys but they seem to put together a powerful machine for really low prices. Couple of the high end magazine that I read have good reviews for them.

RE: Buying a Gaming Rig
Doomweaver,

It's generally dependant on what you want from your gaming rig, from the sounds of it you have a fairly massive budget to be working from so there's going to be none of the usual cost-cutting issues that I tend to find with people asking for PC specs.

I have a couple of questions first though:

Do you already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse?
Are you aiming to run any particular game well?
Do you have any particular chip manufacturer preference for CPU and GPU? (some people can be funny about this)

Certainly on the strength of the rigs I'd be looking at the uber-ware range, but if you add a monitor (at least 24" for high resolution gaming) you will be pushing the top end of your budget.

And a plug for the company I used to work for, because it's always nice to spread the link love. Wink

RE: Buying a Gaming Rig
I know you said you wanted it to last a few years - but that's just not practical anymore. PCs and games requirements simply move on too fast.

My best advice is spend half your budget, which will still get you a very fine PC. Then over time, upgrade bits of it, specifically the graphics card, every year or so.

Much better way to make it stay current, imho Smile
