Hello Ray,
Welcome to TechMonkeys. ![]() I may be wrong, but I don't think that this particular forum software allows for members to have different login and display names. You may however ask an admin to delete your account and you can register a new one. Just a thought, chiaz . |

Consider it done mate.
I didnt realise you were the same Ray from TechGuy lol. Anyway glad you sorted your issue on TechGuy if you are interested in learning a little more about web programming and the like then it is a good idea to get the basics of html understood first as this gives you the building blocks for everything else. Then you simply need to pick a language you would like to learn go with it. My personal preference is PHP as it is what a lot of forum/cms type software is written in (plus it's free )

Thanks KiD.
Thanks for fixing the username. Thanks for aiding me in fixing home page transfer. And thanks for the Html & PHP direction. Next question. Should I study the HTML first or the PHP? I know a little (very little) about html but nothing about PHP tho I have seen it talked about on the forums. Thanks and thanks again, Ray Dumb and getting dumber all the time. |

It is definitely a good idea to learn HTML first as this is the main foundation of everything you do when making a web page.
HTML Dog have excellent beginners tutorials on HTML http://www.htmldog.com/guides/ Pay special attention to the CSS related parts as this is what makes the difference between "ok" looking websites and "stunning" looking websites. HTML teaches you how to put websites together and how they are structured, but unfortunately HTML on it's own will only help you create static pages, that have to be updated manually. What you want to learn next is a scripting language, like PHP, ASP, Ruby on Rails, etc. These are what turn your static site in to a community or knowledge base. My personal preference is for PHP as I find it more straight forward to understand than others and it is what most of the forum, cms type software is written in. If you have any questions or problems with learning these languages then we have lots of Monnkeys here who will be glad to help. 1 more thing, before you start grab yourself an editor like Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) and use it as your editor as it makes the job easier and simpler to understand as it highlights the code for you so you can see when something isnt right. - Techmonkey ================ Enterprise Business IT Support | SME IT Support | Home Support Available |
