personally kiD,
i think the site , its easy for someone with NO-PC knowledge to get around , everything is marked as it should be, very easy to understand
and all the buttons get you to where you wanna go:

hedges wrote:also how about a help me button, that take a person directly to creating a new thread in the help me forum.
yeah i'd go along with that..
how about moving the who's online part to up near the top so that you can see if anyone can help you straight away
another good one...

my input : i think you could put up a small flashing box in top corner with number of problems solved that day/week/month?
maybe you could have a forum or thread box of some sort for people like myself who are puter-illiterate and maybe feel embarassed to ask a question or dont know how to explain the problem in puter terms..if you know what i mean.
how about a timer of some sort that shows how long thread has been before it was answered , but only in the important threads ie code/spyware forums for eg?

KID all of my input has come from what i have experienced on this board personally,
i was over-impressed with. the time it took someone to answere:
the mere fact that someone had actually answered a garbled message about a problem that i didnt understand, and so on mate

anyway mate i hope it helps a bit........but if nothing.......YOU HAVE STILL GOT AN EXCELLENT BOARD HERE ....KEEP IT UP :mdance

One item I would like is when a topic has more then one page to that when you click on it that you would open up on the last post. Seems silly but it saves me one click and any clicks I can save is great. It is from the last topic posted that only takes you to the first page.

I do like the timer suggestion but I can see since we only have a couple of people that have the knowledge to work on their problems that our response time could look very bad as you know we are a small site with a good group of hard working monkeys but we can always have more monkeys to help. But what about just showing what topics have not had any response that could be a red flag for us to take a fast look at it because some how we missed the topic.

And I'm not sure if it is something I'm doing wrong or just the way it is set up but when I add a link to my post it always goes to the bottom of the page and I have to cut and paste it in the right spot. Would really like the link to be were I try to put it the first time

But the bottom line is the Techmonkey site is a very user friendly site and that is alfter all the most impotant since alot of the people that are coming for help are not always people who work with computers just like our good friend puter-illiterate who by the way is not longer puter-illiterate he has gone up two lvl's

And of course you know what else I want....................To be able to post attachments here so the end user can get the files they may need to fix there computers. But so far I'm the only one that needs that so not a top item for you :E

Thanks for the input guys, it has been a while since I did any major work to the site, so I shall make notes on what has been said and see what I can do.

Please bear in mind though, I am actually pretty poor wth making/designing sites, so the work I do is pretty much all guess work Tongue

However most of the suggestions seem possible.

Top right of page mate "Unanswered Posts" or http://www.techmonkeys.co.uk/forums/sear...unanswered

Not sure on this one, when I paste a link it goes where ever the cursor is. Unless you mean when you click one of the BBCODE links like: IMG or URL etc. These unfortunately will always go to the end of your post, however I will take a look on phpbbhacks.com and phpbb.com to see if there is a fix for that.

Sorry dude you have been asking for this for a while, so I will make it the top of my list of things to do Smile my bad hehehe

Quote: i think you could put up a small flashing box in top corner with number of problems solved that day/week/month?

I suppose if all solved threads are marked (SOLVED), i should be able to do it or get something that can count the number of instances of that on the forum, within a specified date range, nice idea Smile

I have always liked it being at the bottom as I think the welcome is best at top and that sort of info towards the bottom. However if more people agree it should be at the top then I shall move it, I live to please.

A glossary of IT related terms wouldnt be a bad thing at all, I will start a thread and we can all put our own additions in, then create a list based on it Smile

yeah i'd go along with that..

This is kind of what I tried to do with the "Quick Help Links" on the left hand side. Although maybe it could stand out a bit more.

As mjack say's this would possibly make us look bad due to the fact we are small and cannot always guarantee an answer straight away. Also some problems can take a long time to diagnose and solve (especially spyware).

:bmoon

Seriously though I really do appreciate the input.

We will be soon hitting Techmonkeys first birthday :bday and to see how the site has grown, and the excellent members that now frequent it, really makes a man happy. I have always wanted techmonkeys to be both user-friendly and a good place to come and chill out......So far so good.
