My new laptop won't install free security
I've just bought an HP G56 laptop, Window7 Home Premium.
On the old and battered lappy, I have downloaded the set up programs for the following free items: Norton removal tool (it had norton set up icons) AVG Sunbelt Kerio Superantistpyware Malwarebytes Then 1)I have removed norton although a "Norton Online" is still there.# 2) Attempted to install Sunbelt but a dialog box opened to say that Window Firewall blocked this installation 3) tried with AVG but got told: "error code 0xE001D027. This platform not supported by this installation package. Unexpected runtime error. Context: intialisation. 4) I tried then with Avast but it gives error 1006 (000003EE) Try to download setup file again. (same thing) I don't want Norton in any shape or form and want the free security I've had now on all my previous lappies, and of course I won't go online with it until I'm confident it's all secure, as I will need the laptop for my work. Please note that I'm not familiar with Window7 yet. Also please note that I'm not terribly savvy with computer, so I would appreciate simple terminology. Any helpful soul coming to my rescue? Thanks in advance. |

RE: My new laptop won't install free security
Hi Quark
It sounds like you downloaded the applications on windows XP, which will not always be compatible with windows 7 especially as newer computers can have a very different hardware architecture to old ones. To fix this simply download the applications you want again from the company's website and install from that installer. you should then have no problems. RE: My new laptop won't install free security
Thank you so much for your reply Fail Whale! Yes I did dowload on XP. Oh dear I'm not that savvy in these teche matters. I have used Filehippo to get the programs.
However I downloaded avast again and now it seems to be accepted by W7. Would it be ok to just retain Windows own firewall, plus have Avast antivirus and a couple of good antispywares? Oh and ccleaner of course. |
