Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
Hello all,
I am looking for software that will enable a user to view a site but will also block certain pages that contain certain words??? , without actually blocking the whole site? Is there such thing available?? Or a programme that still lets the user view the site but everything on the page that the user is trying to view is scrambled or encrypted as they contain the contaminated words [so to speak]?? Any help is Sincerely appreciated ![]()
If it wasnt for this site and the people on it, i would have chucked away my Computer long ago ! and i would never have bothered with it again!!!! KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK!! MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

RE: Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
I've not heard of specific keyword blocking software, though I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.
A simple javascript call should do it... I did initially think OpenDNS would have this feature, but does not appear to have the in page blocking, only the general page block (at least the basic package). I will have a look around to see if I can find any software packages for you. Register Linux Machines: 408537, 413272, 413273, 435704, 435721

RE: Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
Well I've been looking for the last couple of days and can't find anything. Though I am struggling to actually find the right search terms for this.
I will keep trying, but I don't know if I will be able to find exactly what you are after. If I may ask, what is the situation where you would need to block certain keywords and not the whole page? Just in case I (or someone else) can offer any alternatives. Register Linux Machines: 408537, 413272, 413273, 435704, 435721

The reason i want certain information or words or pages blocked and not the whole site basically is: There are a number of people within the house that use this same PC, Some of us use the same site sites but NOT the same pages, to give you an example, eg: Lets say i use a news site like BBC which contains a varied series of pages, and someonelse uses the site for fashion? but i dont want anyone to be able to veiw the sports pages,? I cant block the whole site as i wont be able to view the news pages....does that make sense? This is purely an example (12-05-2011 05:05 PM)Jimmy Wrote: I will keep trying, but I don't know if I will be able to find exactly what you are after.thanks again for trying mate. RE: Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
I've sent you a PM in response, but basically I can only suggest per page blocking which would still allow access to the domain but would block pages based on keywords within each page.
OpenDNS supports this. Register Linux Machines: 408537, 413272, 413273, 435704, 435721

Ok Jimmy, cheers for you reply mate, how would we go about this then mate? I think that Page blocking would work, allowing access to the domain and blocking a page is just what i need? Time for a really stupid question here ....... What exactly is OpenDNS...??? If it wasnt for this site and the people on it, i would have chucked away my Computer long ago ! and i would never have bothered with it again!!!! KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK!! MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

RE: Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I've been away.
Anyway, apologies also for not explaining what OpenDNS was. I assumed you were aware of it, but nevermind. OpenDNS is basically a free (or paid if you want extra control) DNS sever, which is what translates the URL names into IP's to point you to the correct servers. However, OpenDNS also offer management of web content filtering and other useful tools. The best thing to do would be to have a look around on http://www.opendns.com/ and see if it looks like it would cater for your needs. It's pretty easy to set up, but give me a shout if you need any help. Register Linux Machines: 408537, 413272, 413273, 435704, 435721

RE: Page Blocking software..is there such thing?
Happy to help. Once it's set up though, you shouldn't need to touch it again which is the good thing about using a remote service (as updates etc are all done their end).
