PPTP Connections

Having recently moved to Win7 at work I went about recreating all my VPN connections which are predomanently PPTP.

I found that when trying to connect for the first time it would hang on Authenticating or Negotiating connection and the only was out was to end the process and kill the connection in my networking settings.

On further investigation it turned out to be when you setup a new VPN connection it automatically uses IKE as it's security method.

To correct this you need to

1. Go in to the Network and Sharing center
2. Click Change Adapter Settings
3. Right click on your connection and choose properties
4. Click the security tab
5. Change the Type of VPN drop down from Automatic to PPTP
6. Click OK to save.
   

This should then resolve the issue. I have not yet found a way to make PPTP the default VPN security so if anyone does, please let us know.
