Router problems
Posted: Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:26 pm Post subject: Router Problem
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi. I got a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with 4-port switch. My mothers idiot friend used to be repear my computer and the others at home, and he is the OP ( At the moment im the Op cause I hacked his pass >.< ). He took a password on the router too, and I dont know how to hack it... and he forgotten the password( how can somebody forgot a password??).. he told me to reset the router and create new options on it... BUT he told be careful because I can mess the whole internet connection. Could you lend me some help what to do after I reset the router? (I have the manual but its messy ), if I mess the router up my family kills me ( eveybody got a computer .........) I can still connect to net through the modem but they cannot then. So pls give me a specification about how to configure it by myself. The only thing I want to have my own password. Because I cant host. If I add any port to the router it blocks it. So I have to add them at the 192.168.1.1 page.... |

Since you have access to the router, yes reset the router. By resetting the all settings and firmware will revert back to the factory settings. Most routers out of the box and setup with DHCP and auto get IP settings. So you can reset and still have Internet access. If your connection requires passwords and forwarding your MAC address then you will need to configure your router. I would call up your isp and reset your and have them walk your threw the settings and they should get you back online. That or you could RTFM.

DHCP:
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Network application protocol used by system administrators to reduce the workload, allowing devies to be added to the network with little or no manual configiations. Now on the RTFM.....He could be talking about and if he was I hope he was joking around a little Read the ***** Manual

Hi Dezix,
Sorry answers like RTFM don't help. However we do so here's what you need to do: 1) Make sure you know your ISP connection details. Username, password, any IP details. All this should have come in a letter when you set up the broadband, alternatively you will need to speak to your ISP. 2) Let us know the make/model of the router and we will guide you through your setup. - Techmonkey ================ Enterprise Business IT Support | SME IT Support | Home Support Available |

ISP's account management website, or the information pack they mailed to you when you joined? Failing that, email their tech support.
